Hotels in Delhi: There are every kind of hotel in delhi from super luxury to backpackers type. But the 5 star where I always dreamt of staying was Maurya Sheraton and even Mr Bill Clinton stayed in this hotel. It is located in the diplomatic area and one of the cleanest surrounding in delhi with good green cover. Airport: 15 km., Railway Station: 8 km., Bus Station: 17 km., City Centre: 7 km. Next to the Mauraya is another good one called Taj Palace. The Hyatt Hotel is also not far and the list goes on.
If you looking for some cheaper accomodation hotels in Karol Bagh and Connaught Place area are good bet too.
Then there are super cheap hotels near the railway station in the Paharganj Area but not so clean area, the roads are narrow and congested.
How To Travel:
A) Traveling by Metro (it is overhead and underground train) is the best option if you
want to travel to historical places at a cheap price because u can buy a daily metro pass for just 1$. Though the metro is usually crowded during peak hours but it is one of the cleanest and safest mode of travel in Delhi. http://www.delhimetrorail.com/commuters/index.html
B) Dial-a-cab: It will cost u 40 cents per kilometer and if you traveling a night then 25% extra. http://www.megacabs.com/delhi-radio-taxi.php.
C. Buses: Govt buses are usually crowded and in bad shape except for few new ones. But if you area planning to go from to delhi to neighboring cities, you can definately find nice buses. Always ask for Volvo type buses.
